One of the main advantages of the B6.7 Octane is that it runs on 87 octane gasoline, providing performance and reliability similar to a diesel engine without the need for additional DEF systems to meet regulations. Cummins claims that this new engine is 10% more fuel efficient compared to similar gas engines. The engine is also compliant with CARB and EPA standards for 2027, although recent EPA deregulation actions may impact these guidelines.
The B6.7 Octane engine will be launched in collaboration with Kenworth in Class 5 to 7 trucks, specifically the T180-T480 models. These trucks are primarily used for straight truck operations rather than tractor-trailer operations. While the fuel savings specifics are not mentioned, the initial data suggests that the engine’s torque is slightly lower than its diesel counterpart but can still reach maximum torque around 1,600 to 1,800 rpm. The availability of this engine in other vehicles or applications is yet to be confirmed.
