More than seventy years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France were celebrated with a grand state welcome for French President Emmanuel Macron in Jakarta. The grounds of Merdeka Palace and the area surrounding the National Monument (Monas) came alive with around 3,000 students, elegantly dressed and waving flags of both countries. President Macron, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, arrived at Merdeka Palace to be greeted warmly by President Prabowo Subianto in an official ceremony. The two leaders, amidst the playing of national anthems and a 21-gun salute, walked to the ceremonial grounds, inspecting the honor guard under Jakarta’s clear blue sky. Macron’s visit also included trips to the Military Academy in Magelang and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the cultural and educational connections between Indonesia and France. The day ended with a closed-door bilateral meeting between President Macron and President Prabowo to discuss strengthening strategic partnerships, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.
