President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the government’s dedication to the education sector in his State Budget 2026 Financial Note during the opening of the House of Representatives’ plenary session. Allocating a record Rp 757.8 trillion to education in the 2026 state budget, Prabowo highlighted the importance of high-quality education to produce globally competitive human resources and combat poverty. Ensuring effective use of education funds, priorities include improving teacher welfare and quality, enhancing vocational training, and aligning curricula with labor market demands. The budget breakdown includes provisions for programs like Program Indonesia Pintar and Kartu Indonesia Pintar, along with significant funding for school and campus facility upgrades. Emphasizing the importance of education and expanding access to quality education, Prabowo also reiterated plans to strengthen initiatives like Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Unggul Garuda. Additionally, the government aims to provide scholarships through LPDP to nurture a generation prepared to compete on a global scale. Finally, Prabowo emphasized the need to enhance Indonesia’s capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to ensure the country’s progress in these key areas.
