Entry-level Mercedes S-Class has been unveiled without any additional options by the automaker. The basic variant usually doesn’t appear in press photos, but Mercedes provided a look at the S-Class without any upgrades. This entry-level model won’t be available in the US due to the preference for long-wheelbase versions and the absence of a diesel engine. In Germany, the base model is the S350d, featuring a shorter wheelbase and an interior without leather seats. Instead of traditional leather, the seats combine leatherette, linen, and recycled polyester, with the option for genuine black leather at no extra cost.
Despite no added options, this luxury sedan comes with a hefty price tag of €109,220 in its home market and around US$130,000. The European price includes VAT, which significantly affects the cost. The entry-level S-Class sports 18-inch wheels, comes in grey, and includes passenger screen as a standard feature. The updated version also introduces a physical roller for some functions on the steering wheel. It’s refreshing to see Mercedes offering a vegan interior option for its flagship sedan without charging extra for leather and treating alternative materials as a legitimate choice.
