President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, made his debut at the BRICS Summit as the head of state of a newly accepted full member in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, highlighted the emphasis on enhancing international economic cooperation as a key outcome of the summit. The Leaders’ Declaration from the summit outlined agreements on strengthening multilateralism and global governance reform. Indonesia found particular importance in the promotion of peace, security, and international economic cooperation to expand market access for Indonesian products within the BRICS framework. The summit was attended by the founding BRICS members and newly admitted countries such as Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
