by

The Government of Indonesia, in partnership with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), recently introduced the Sports Scholarship Program. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs, aims to enhance the national sports ecosystem and ensure the welfare of sports professionals in the long term.

The program offers scholarships for both active and retired athletes, as well as sports professionals, to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees, either locally or internationally. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to not just focusing on short-term sports achievements, but also on sustainable human capital development.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, emphasized that the scholarship reflects the state’s support for the sports community’s welfare and future. The program is designed to help retired athletes transition into new careers beyond their sporting endeavors. It provides two entry tracks: performance enhancement and achievement recognition, enabling sports professionals to contribute to sports science, management, and national policy development.

Plans are in place to expand the program to undergraduate levels and revive sports schools nationwide in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. This vision aims to nurture excellence through a sports-based educational approach from early development to professional success.

Minister Dito highlighted the government’s goal of instilling strong sportsmanship in the younger generation through education. The initiative received praise from Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Prof. Pratikno, who underscored the significance of sports in character development.

Acting President Director of LPDP, Sudarto, emphasized the program’s inclusive and adaptive nature in offering opportunities for sports professionals to grow and inspire. The Sports Scholarship Program is seen as a strategic inclusion within the national education funding system, emphasizing the belief that education is the key to success.

This scholarship launch reaffirms the government’s commitment to sports as a platform for intellectual and social development, showcasing its presence in supporting athletes from the early stages of their careers to their future endeavors beyond sports.
